Chair and Chief Executive

Sir Amyas Morse Chairman

Lord Amyas Morse joined as Chair on 1 January 2020. He is currently also Chair of The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Lord Morse has a distinguished career in finance in both the private and public sector; recently as Comptroller and Auditor General of the National Audit Office, leaving a much respected NAO after his ten year tenure. During his leadership, the NAO produced over 60 reports on the NHS, in a drive to improve services locally and nationally.

An Oxford graduate, Lord Morse qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Arthur Young, he joined Deloitte as the youngest regional partner and has worked for Coopers & Lybrand, reforming as PricewaterhouseCoopers taking on a global role. He became a member of their UK and Global boards. He joined the Ministry of Defence in July 2006 as the Defence Commercial Director, before joining the National Audit Office.
Lord Morse was also the Chair for the Board of Audit for the United Nations between 2011 and 2017. He currently serves as Finance Committee Chair for the Royal College of Surgeons.

Chris Bown, Interim Chief Executive

Chris joined as interim Chief Executive in March 2020.

Chris has over 30 years’ experience in senior board level leadership roles in the UK National Health Service, the last 14 as a CEO. He has practical experience in leading organizations through significant change and service transformation to deliver improvements for patients with a focus on whole system integration, partnership and transformation.

Chris’ work as a permanent and freelance Chief Executive of hospitals in the UK along with advisory assignments for the NHS and in the Caribbean region has equipped him with a wide range of leadership skills that are often put to use in very challenging environments where he has developed a strong track record of success.

Pippa Nightingale RM, BSc MSc MBE, Chief Executive (from February 2022)

Pippa first joined the NHS in 1993 as a health care assistant. She qualified as a Midwife at the University of Herefordshire in 1998 and practiced as a clinical Midwife for the next 10 years in all areas of clinical midwifery. In 2007 she undertook an MSc in clinical leadership and became a Consultant Midwife, a role which she thoroughly enjoyed, empowering women and Midwives. Pippa has undertaken many clinical leadership roles such as Head of Midwifery, Director of women’s services and Clinical director in large London Trust. During this time, she has also led large scale complex service redesign such as the redesign of maternity services in North West London. Since 2016 she has been Chief Nurse at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust; a role empowering and encouraging over 4000 nurses, Midwives and AHP’s to be the best clinicians they can be and ensuring they have supportive systems and process to provide high quality care to all patients, women and families they care for.

Pippa has been the Chief Nurse for North West London integrated Care System since April 2019 leading clinicians and improving the quality of care for the population of NWL.

In 2018 she was named by NHS England in the 70th anniversary of the NHS, as one of the 70 influential nurses and Midwives alongside some inspirational Nurse and Midwifery leaders. She has also received an MBE in 2019 for her services to Midwifery. 

Non-Executive Directors

Dr Vineta Bhalla - Non-Executive Director

Vineta is a medical doctor and public health expert. Her special interest is in long term conditions and community care. She has held senior roles within the Department of Health and the NHS. She has previously served as the executive director for hospitals at the Singapore Ministry of Health and held positions on various national and international boards. 

Janet Rubin - Vice Chair and Non-Executive Director

Janet has enjoyed a 40-year business career in the field of HR. Her passion for improving health services led her to take on various HR roles in the health sector. She was an Interim HR Director  for Norfolk and Norwich University Trust, the Oxfordshire PCT and the HR Director for City and Hackney Teaching PCT. She was also a Member of the NHS Pay Review Body and held an Interim Director of HR & OD position at the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Janet also has an extensive portfolio career. She is currently a Member of the Remuneration Committee for the General Pharmaceutical Council, as well as being a partner in an executive coaching firm and an investment management business.
Janet has lived/worked in the boroughs of Ealing, Brent and Harrow. 

Andrew van Doorn - Non-Executive Director

Andrew is the chief executive of the Housing Association Charitable Trust (HACT), a national innovation charity, social enterprise and industry-focused think/do tank established by the housing association sector. He is the lead for all of HACT’s work on integrating housing and health, working with NHS trusts and housing associations to develop new community based healthcare partnerships.

Andrew has worked nationally and internationally in housing and vulnerable people, supported housing and care, community development and wider social policy and practice for 26 years.

Professor Desmond Johnston - Non-Executive Director

Professor Desmond Johnston is the Head of the Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism section at the Imperial College of London. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh where he attained his MB ChB. He obtained his PhD from the University of Southampton. Professor Johnston joined our Trust as a Non-executive director in 2018.

In July 2005, he was appointed Director of the Department of Health-sponsored UK Diabetes Research Network (UKDRN) and in 2015 he became Head of Cluster A (Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, Kidney Disease and Metabolic and Endocrine Disease) of the NIHR Clinical Research Network. He is also currently co-Chair of the Council of Healthcare Professionals at Diabetes UK.

David Moss - Non-Executive Director

David has 40 years’ experience in leadership and operational roles, most recently as Shell’s Retail General Manger for North Europe and Board Director of Shell UK.  He has successfully led a number of large business turnarounds and global projects using his commercial acumen and experience in strategy, marketing, operations and IT. Having worked abroad and travelled extensively he has developed a genuine appreciation for diversity and inclusiveness, putting people and safety first.

Neville Manuel - Non-Executive Director 

Neville is an accomplished senior executive with over 15 years extensive experience operating at board level in the private, public, and third sectors, in both executive and non-executive roles.

He is a skilled commercial leader with a proven track record in transformational change, developing and executing strategy, setting up joint ventures, launching new businesses and operational, and P&L management in the telecoms, media and technology sectors.

In his corporate career his roles included Vice President of BT’s internet business, director of its TV business, and Group General Manager of Strategy.

Now focussed on non-executive roles, he currently sits on the boards of the West London NHS Trust and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).

He is also a founder director of a small independent film production company.

Dr Syed Mohinuddin

Dr Mohinuddin has worked in the NHS for over 20 years and is a Consultant Neonatologist, London Neonatal Transfer Service, Barts Health NHS Trust. He is also the Training Program Director, London Specialty School of Paediatrics, Health Education England and Innovation and Clinical Lead, NeoMate Smart Phone App Program.

Dr Mohinuddin has a close connection with the Trust and its local community. He is a member of the Harrow Muslim Community and Harrow Central Mosque and previously worked as a specialist registrar at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex hospitals between 2004 and 2007.

Dr Mohinuddin graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India in 1995 and was awarded the prestigious Colonel Malhotra Memorial Gold Medal in medicine. He subsequently moved to the UK and completed his core and higher specialist training in Paediatrics.

Executive Directors

Lisa Knight - Chief Nurse 

Lisa was appointed as chief nurse and director of patient care in May 2019.

She brought a wealth of experience gained from a range of nursing disciplines. Lisa spent the first few years of her career at hospitals in north London. She then spent a year at an acute medical oncology unit in Toronto. On her return to the UK, Lisa pursued her interest in burns and plastic surgery care, working in units at University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.

Before her appointment here, she spent six years as the Chief Nurse of Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Lisa's particular interests are in digital transformation, leading quality improvement to improve Care Quality Commission ratings, and improving the experience of our patients.

Dr Jon Baker, Interim Chief Medical Officer

Jon joined the trust in 2018 as a Deputy Medical Director and the Divisional Lead for Emergency Medicine. He'd previously been the deputy medical director at East and North Herts NHS trust for two years.

Jon trained at UCL qualifying in 1996 before working in elderly care medicine and gaining his MRCP.

After that he trained as an emergency physician and still practices one day a week in our emergency department.

Jon's particular interests lie in transforming pathways and patient safety. He also has a degree psychology and a specific interest in mental health and improving care for this group of patients. 

Simon Crawford - Director of Strategy and Deputy Chief Executive

Simon took on the role of director of strategy in October 2015. Prior to this he was finance director and senior responsible officer for the merger of Ealing Hospital NHS Trust and North West London Hospital NHS Trust in April 2011.

He started his career in the NHS in Wales in 1985 where he worked for five years on the external audit of the NHS. This role involved undertaking audits of hospitals and health bodies throughout Wales during which time he qualified as an accountant. On qualification he joined East Dyfed Health Authority. He joined Broadmoor Special Health Authority as finance director in 1997 and became finance director of West London Mental Health NHS Trust in 2001. He was appointed chief executive in 2004.

In 2009 Simon joined NHS London in a wider strategic role to support NHS trusts in their progress towards foundation trust status.

Claire Gore -  Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development

Claire joined us in 2015 from Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she was director of people for five years. Prior to joining the NHS Claire worked for the Metropolitan Police, where she held a number of human resources positions and the London Borough of Brent as strategic HR manager for corporate services and children and families. Claire holds a post-graduate certificate in strategic HR and training and development and a master of science in sociology and social.

Mark Trumper - Director of Estates and Facilities

Mark took on the role of Director of Estates and Facilities in February 2019. He joined us from Semperian PPP Investment Partners, a private firm who invest in UK social infrastructure providing essential public services to local communities, mainly in health and education.

As Managing Director, Mark managed £8.5bn of public infrastructure, including 35 hospitals across the UK and Ireland.

Before joining Semperian, Mark spent seven years in the NHS, most recently at Oxford University Hospitals as Director of Estates. He directly supported their successful applications to become both a Foundation Trust and an Academic Health Science Centre.

David Searle - Director of Corporate Affairs

David joined the Trust in April 2019. Previously Director of Strategy at Hillingdon Hospitals he led the successful Foundation Trust application and supported the establishment of the Academic Centre for Health Sciences with Brunel University London.

Prior to joining the NHS in 2007 he enjoyed a 20 year career as a Fleet Air Arm pilot in the Royal Navy where senior roles included second in command of a major warship and the Commanding Officer of a Naval Air Squadron.

He subsequently held a number of commercial roles in the aerospace and defence industries. He is a Chartered Director and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Ellis Pullinger, Chief Operating Officer

Ellis joined us in March 2020 from St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where, as Chief Operating Officer, he worked to return the Trust to reporting its 18-week referral to treatment standard.

He began his NHS career in 1996 and has held senior positions across London. Ellis’s previous roles include Divisional Director of Operations and then Assistant Chief Executive at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, leading and managing the successful transition of pathology services to North West London Pathology in 2017.

Ellis has also worked for Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Jonathan Reid, Chief Financial Officer

Jonathan joined us as CFO in April 2020. He began his career as a lecturer in finance at Sheffield Hallam University.

In 1998 he joined the National Audit Office as their Principal Auditor, moving to the Audit Commission and then into Brighton and Hove PCT in 2007 as the Deputy Director of Finance and Market Development.

In 2009 he joined Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust as the Deputy Director of Finance, moving in 2012 to join Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust as the Director of Finance, Estates and Deputy Chief Executive.

In 2016 Jonathan moved to East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, an integrated acute and community provider, as their Director of Finance.
